Fully optimised for the iPad retina display, this App is designed for young children and includes a range of basic shapes within each challenge such as triangles, squares, rectangles, circles, ovals, pentagons, hexagons and octagons. Two challenges extend colour and shape recognition as the shapes are grouped together.
Two colour palettes are included - the basic paintbox includes the primary colours of red, yellow and blue as well as white and black. The advanced paintbox includes the same colours as the basic paintbox plus orange, green, purple, pink and brown.
The App is easy to use and incorporates an array of visual, text and audio prompts to support learning. Audio prompts are linked to the colours in the palettes and the speech can be enabled/disabled.
The example of the triangle (top image) illustrates a basic pentagon shape filled with the correct colour from the basic paintbox of five colours and visual prompt in the instruction box. The bottom image illustrates one of the objects incorporating five of the basic shapes. Click on an image to enlarge.
As always with infants and very young children, the best learning takes place when the adults talks with the child as they work through the challenges together. Each challenge contains a series of different shapes and objects which are generated by and presented in a random order.
Colour My Shapes has been designed for iPad, iPad 2 the new iPad and iPad Air, running either iOS 4.3+ to iOS 10.
