The second App in our new early learning series introduces counting with a number of basic shapes grouped together in various combinations. Within each challenge the numbers range from 2-9 with triangles, squares, circles, pentagons, hexagons or octagons.
Two colour palettes are included - the basic paintbox includes the primary colours of red, yellow and blue as well as white and black. The advanced paintbox includes the same colours as the basic paintbox plus orange, green, purple, pink and brown.
The first example (top image) shows that three of the five squares displayed have been filled in line with the prompt. The second example (bottom image) shows a successful attempt of counting and filling four circles. In each challenge, shapes are generated in different formats and always presented in a random order. The App is easy to use and incorporates an array of visual, text and audio prompts to support learning. Audio prompts are linked to the colours in the palettes as well as the counting each correctly fillwed shape. The speech can be enabled/disabled.
As always with infants and very young children, the best learning takes place when the adults talks with the child as they work through the challenges together. Each challenge contains a series of different shapes and objects.
