Victoria Primary School

About the school

We are a community primary school for children from 3-11 years of age, located on Cartmel Road, Keighley in West Yorkshire.

View our school profile (new window).

We moved into a new, re-located primary school following a major school re-organisation in the area.

We have additional space for use by members of the community we serve as most of our families live some distance from the school.

Download a copy of "Community Conversation" - a NCSL research associate report written by Kay Lindley, the headteacher, that looks at an approach for developing an extended school through stakeholder conversation (PDF document).

Our children particpated in the Music Creator Project during February and March 2006. They explored their creative responses to the natural environment within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

KOPP Fundraising

(Keighley Outreach in Pakistan Project)

Along with other Keighley Schools we have been involved in a week of fundraising events culminating in activities on the actual anniversary of the Pakistan Earthquake. (Sunday 8th October)

  • We have had individual class competitions ranging from colouring competitions to sponsored spelling tests.

  • You have heard of the X Factor - well we had the V Factor - a talent competition with children paying a £1 entry fee. The results were so good that in the whole school final it was impossible to split the contestents and so all 15 finalists will receive certificates and prizes.

  • Children raided their money boxes to bring in to school all the 1p & 2p coins they could carry. These were laid out to create shapes such as a hissing snake, mosques, stars and crescent moons. The administrator's arms ached after carrying over £200 in copper to the bank after this event!.

  • Thursday saw various produce stalls around school with goods made by and for the children. This was a complete sell out - so much so that an urgent trip to town had to be made to buy up suitable stock so as not to disappoint the customers!

  • The Great Balloon Race was launched with over 100 balloons being bought for £1 each. They all set off quickly into the grey and windy skies above Keighley each bearing a label with the name of the owner and a plea to tell us how far it travelled.

  • The Victoria Super Saturday Club raised over £133 with a car wash, cake stall and football tournament with 40 children taking part.

  • Then came Sunday - the anniversary of the Quake. A Family Fun Day saw crowds of people enjoying such attractions as a Bouncy Castle; the Lolly Game; a Tombola; an Eid Card Factory; a Toy Stall; Take Away Food & sweets; a Photo Studio; Mendhi painting; Clothing & Fabric sales; Bike rides and a chance to get revenge by throwing wet sponges at the Headteacher - 3 for a £1 and this stall alone raised £100 - a lot of revenge out there!

The total for the afternoon was £620.

In the evening a Charity Supper to coincide with the end of fasting for the day saw well over 100 people coming together to share a meal to open the fast. Guest speakers at the event were Ann Cryer MP, Cllr Graham Mitchell, Mayor of Keighley Town Council; Malcolm Hoddy, Editor of the Keighley News and Zafar Iqbal, Victoria's Pastoral & Community Manager. They spoke of the KOPP fundraising being significant, not only for the fact that so far 3 new primary schools are under construction paid for by the fund, but that the effort was being made by all aspects of the Keighley Community coming together to help people in need. It was also seen as important that the children of the town were greatly involved -helping them to understand their role as citizens of the town working together for a common goal. With some donations from individuals included the week has so far raised £3400 with more money still coming in. This will be used for furniture and equipment in the newly re-built schools. There is still time to support the effort as we are selling "bricks" to build the schools at 50p each from the school office. These will be on sale until the end of Ramadan (October 23rd).

Please come and buy a brick to build a school.
